A student council is elected to provide students an opportunity for dialogue with the administration, provide direction to student publications, and organize student activities and social functions. It is the school's desire to have all students participate fully in order to provide a more meaningful educational experience.
Students graduating or completing their course of study are counseled regarding opportunities for job interviews. No school can guarantee employment, but The Sawyer School makes a sincere effort toward successful placement of its graduates. Each student is instructed in proper interviewing techniques and procedures, preparation of resumes and letters of introduction and on the general requirements of business and allied health fields.
The school's career services director will assist students in finding suitable part-time work while attending the Sawyer School.
The Sawyer School, in conjunction with the Lexington Group in Connecticut and Gateway Healthcare, Inc. in Rhode Island, provides a wide range of school-based counseling services to support our student body. Reflective of The Sawyer School's unique commitment to quality and life issues, we recognize that our students must often cope with issues in their lives which may be personal, intense, and private. Furthermore, we understand that personal issues left unresolved may inhibit the student's ability to take full advantage of his/her Sawyer experience.
With that in mind, a professional Lexington or Gateway Healthcare, Inc. counselor is available upon request, providing consultation, brief counseling support or referral for any student at no cost. With respect for the individual's right to privacy, issues including personal, emotional, relationship or chemical dependency problems have been resolved successfully with support of our Student Assistance Program counselors.
Students are encouraged to contact the Lexington Group or Gateway Healthcare, Inc. directly, or to request a referral from any Sawyer staff member. Counselors may also be present at orientation programs to explain the services available to our student population.
Academic counseling is a continuing process among students, faculty members, and administrative staff.
"As long as I can remember I wanted to be a teacher, so after high school graduation I attended Rhode Island College. After a few weeks of attending, I realized it was not for me. I felt lost and confused, so I researched some other options and found the Sawyer School. I enrolled in The Medical Assistant Program and graduated with honors. The Sawyer School worked with me throughout my program. They had small classes which I needed. I am now working for an Internal Medicine office and utilizing my skills I learned from The Sawyer School."
